Digestate with biochar: an organo-mineral composite for sustainable agriculture
Digestate with biochar and glauconite is an innovative organo-mineral composite for reducing nutrient losses, prolonged plant nutrition, and increasing soil fertility.
Organic farming FOP LEVDA T.V. (Myrolyubov village, Mykolaiv district, Mykolaiv region) in 2025 demonstrated that organic farming is capable of yielding a harvest even on risky agricultural lands, when there are devastated fields around.
The chronology of events may seem quite ordinary.
On 08.10.2024, the equipment was cleaned and prepared in accordance with the requirements of organic production. On the same day, additional training of personnel on organic farming was carried out. After the specified organizational procedures, GREENODIN GRAY was applied at a rate of 250 kg/ha. And immediately after that, sowing and rolling of organic wheat seeds “Yuvileyna” was carried out.
Wheat growth was surveyed several times, including in February, April, and June 2025.
On July 1, 2025, a pre-harvest briefing was held for personnel, after which the harvest and sale of grain from the combine was carried out, with an average yield of 223 quintals per hectare.
Tymur Lyevda: “Our wheat harvest was saved by the GREENODIN GRAY complex fertilizer, which preserved moisture in the soil and gave wheat a chance to survive where other crops died.
Unfortunately, 5 hectares of organic garlic “Kharkiv Violet” withered, 4 hectares of which were planted under the “tooth”, and 1 ha – “air” for further selection. 1 ha of hot pepper also withered. And a total of 6 hectares of land for vegetables – burned out, to our great regret. Such a sad experience, against the backdrop of the drought of the past and the season before last, clearly indicates the point in growing vegetables in our region only with irrigation, or with a significantly larger application of GREENODIN products. And this is a new level and new tasks, including research.
If we return to wheat, the indicated yield of 2.23 t/ha is quite low compared to the higher yields in other regions of Ukraine, but grown in a classical, non-organic way.
The organic method of growing grains using Mini-till technology in Southern Ukraine has its own characteristics and additional significant costs, and therefore it is logical that such products should cost “a little” more. At the same time, this approach is a strategic solution for maintaining the soil, increasing its fertility and preserving moisture during the constant droughts of the region. And against the background of the use of green manure and crop rotation, it gives a lot of hope for increasing yields in the following periods.”

Soil degradation and water pollution are increasingly merging into a combined environmental crisis, especially in arid and post-industrial regions.

Introduction Among the promising and ecologically acceptable methods of environmental restoration, priority is given to biological approaches (bioremediation, phytoremediation), i.e., the purification of soils and…
