Organicity of EU Regulation 2025/973, with a focus on fertilizers/soil

On May 26, the EU Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/973 was published, amending and correcting Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1165 as regards the authorisation of certain products and substances for use in organic production and the approval of their lists.

Although GREENODIN and AVELIFE products are already certified according to the said Regulation, the said changes require special attention.

??? What is changing in Appendix II

1. Improving the classification of plant raw materials

The term “products and by-products of plant origin” (oilcake, cocoa husk, straw, etc.) is more clearly defined as fertilizers, soil conditioners or nutrient sources.

2. New substances – calcium and magnesium compounds

Calcium and magnesium gluconate are permitted for soil application as a source of these elements, only if obtained from microbial fermentation without genetic modification.

GREENODIN and AVELIFE products in response to regulation

Product composition

GREENODIN and AVELIFE products contain bio-based ingredients and fall fully under Annex II classification and must be labeled as organic fertilizers or soil conditioners.

Calcium and magnesium gluconate

Our Institute plans to improve the form of soil organic and organo-mineral fertilizers GREENODIN and/or AVELIFE, which provides:

  • better solubility and availability of calcium and magnesium compared to carbonates or sulfates;
  • compliance with organic standards if provenance is ensured through microbial fermentation;

This allows you to increase fertility through effective soil nutrition and a comprehensive effect, eliminating mineral deficiencies.

Practical implementation through soil fertilization

Introduce fertilizer with Mg and Ca gluconate, by enriching the existing GREENODIN and/or AVELIFE line, determining the application rate at 5–10 kg/ha. That is, 0.8 to 8 kg of active substance per ton of organic fertilizer, additionally depending on the crop and soil of application.

Include a balance of macro- and micronutrients — especially in soils where there is a Mg deficiency.

Marketing

Respect for the new provisions of Annex II: all the assets mentioned are a clear difference from traditional inorganic salts.

The designation “For organic farming” is clear and precise.

Communication: “Complies with Regulation (EU)2025/973, from natural sources, fermentation quality, GMO-free.”

Soil fertility renewal

1. Plant organics from GREENODIN:

  • Increases organic matter content and improves soil structure.
  • Increase microbiological activity.
  • They provide biocenosis.

2. Gluconate complexes:

  • Provide readily available Ca and Mg, correcting deficiencies.
  • Increase the efficiency of root absorption through helvtne-use.

3. Foliar Ca accumulators:

  • They maintain fruit quality by fertilizing fruit and vegetable crops.
  • Preventive action against fruit cracking.

Concrete steps for GREENODIN and AVELIFE organic products

  1. Check the product composition: does it contain plant biocomponents?
  2. Develop formulas with Ca acetate for foliar application
  3. Develop soil formulations with Ca/Mg gluconate of microbial origin
  4. Conduct field trials to determine efficacy, safety, and crop quality
  5. Update documentation: compliance with Annex II 2025/973
  6. Get certified for the organic market for 2026 and beyond

Under such circumstances, Regulation (EU) 2025/973 opens up the opportunity for organic products GREENODIN and AVELIFE to position their products as organically certified, including additional innovative ingredients (Ca/Mg gluconates) in accordance with the regulations, and as a result, to strengthen soil fertility in a natural way, and as a result, to strengthen the market offer among consumers who value ecological and organic fertilizers.
