Organic Farming: Events, Innovations and Trends September 2025

September 2025 was a busy month for the organic farming industry. Conferences, discussions, scientific publications, and presentations of new technologies shaping the future of organic production took place all over the world, including Ukraine.

Organic farming in Ukraine

Ukraine continues to develop its potential in the field of organic production. According to ProAgro Group, more than 350 thousand hectares of land are currently certified as organic, which is about 1.2% of the total area of agricultural land.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy has announced its intention to increase the share of organic land to 5%, and in the future to 25%. This indicates a transition from the experimental stage to the systematic development of the industry.

On September 23, 2025, the conference “Organic Day in Ukraine” was held, which brought together producers, scientists, representatives of the state and international organizations. Key issues were discussed: domestic demand, access to certification, export support, and development of a system of “green” procurement in the public sector.

Two certification bodies currently operate in Ukraine, which confirms the formation of an institutional framework for the organic market. The ranking of the TOP-20 Ukrainian organic brands, including producers of dairy, vegetable, bakery and honey products, is also presented.

International events and innovations

On the global stage, organic farming is becoming part of technological and climate strategies.

The annual Organic Week 2025, organized by the Organic Trade Association, took place in the United States. More than 260 representatives from business, science, and government discussed ways for the organic sector to adapt to climate challenges and changing consumer behavior.

Organic Innovation Days 2025 (November 3–5) has been announced in Brussels, where the key topics will be biotechnological solutions, sustainable soil management, and digitalization of agricultural production.

Scientific developments in recent months also deserve attention.

  • In the publication “Decoding and Engineering the Phytobiome Communication for Smart Agriculture,” researchers propose new methods for deciphering the interactions between plants, microorganisms, and soil.
  • There is growing interest in using AI technologies to track soil carbon balance — so-called soil carbon copilots help farmers make decisions about fertilization and crop rotation.
  • In the field of robotics, the SARAL-Bot project has appeared – an autonomous strawberry care robot that identifies damaged leaves and performs pruning.

Key trends for September 2025

  1. Accessibility of organics to a wider range of consumers. Organic products are gradually moving from the premium segment to the mass market. The growth of domestic demand in Ukraine indicates a change in consumer priorities.
  2. State and partner support. Farmer support programs and the development of certification institutes create conditions for the expansion of organic production.
  3. The technologization of organics. The integration of artificial intelligence, sensor systems and robotics is gradually becoming the norm even for small farms.
  4. The climate function of organic farming. Carbon balances, preservation of soil fertility and minimization of chemical use make organic farming an important element of climate policy.
  5. The need for consistent communication. The development of the organic market requires systematic consumer information, farmer education, and increased trust in labeling.

Conclusion.

September 2025 showed that organic farming is entering a phase of technological and strategic development. Ukraine is becoming a prominent participant in the global organic movement, and international events and scientific discoveries are creating conditions for further growth of the industry.

Organics is gradually transforming from a trend into a structural component of sustainable agriculture, where science, economics, and ecology work together for the benefit of people and nature.
