Naturopathy in September 2025: new dimensions, new standards, new challenges

September was the month when naturopathy — previously more associated with the “alternative” — began to form systemic signals: education, global initiatives, increased attention to evidence. For Ukraine, this means: time not just to catch up, but to set the tone.

Below are key events, analysis, and signals for action.

1. Educational breakthrough: the intermittent fasting epidemic and epigenetics

Several important materials were published on the Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges (AANMC) website in September:

  • “Intermittent Fasting: Clinical Evidence and Safe Implementation Protocol” is a detailed review of the evidence on when and how to use intermittent fasting in naturopathic practice.
  • “How Your Lifestyle Choices Control Your Genes: The Science of Epigenetics” is an article about how nutrition, stress management, and physical activity can affect gene expression.

This is a signal: naturopathy is no longer just “herbs + massage.” It includes body science, biomarkers, personalization.

For Ukrainian specialists, this is a chance to elevate the profession to a level where it will be perceived as part of integrative medicine.

2. Global initiative: World Health Organization (WHO) creates a library of traditional medicine

On September 25, 2025, WHO announced the launch of the Traditional Medicine Global Library (TMGL), a digital repository for traditional and complementary medicine, including naturopathy.

The platform will integrate over 1.5 million records (logs, evidence cards, multimedia). This means:

  • increasing access to research
  • possibility of standardizing practices
  • global recognition of the direction

For Ukraine, this opens up the opportunity to use the repository for educational programs, translations, and the formation of national standards.

3. Upcoming event: 6th Annual ANP Summit in London — “Detoxification in Clinical Practice”

On September 20-21, 2025, a summit will be held in London, the theme of which will be “Detoxification in Clinical Practice” – with presentations on renal function, nutrigenetics, metal toxicity, and therapy in complex clinical scenarios.

This is another sign: naturopathy is developing clinically-oriented protocols that can be incorporated into the healthcare system.

4. Challenges: Evidence, Ethics, Expectations

Along with the growing attention, questions arise:

  • How ready are Ukrainian specialists to measure up to international standards?
  • How to ensure that naturopathy does not turn into a “fashionable gestalt” but becomes part of medicine?
  • How to respond to criticism when traditional methods are questioned?

These questions are not a fear, but a trigger: now is the time to define a position. The institute can take on the roles of expert, developer, and communicator.

5. Conclusions: Rethinking the role of naturopathy

  • Naturopathy moves beyond the scope of “alternative” → into the field of integrative medicine.
  • The advantage is given to those who: have educational programs, standards, and an evidence base.
  • Ukraine has the opportunity to be not only a user of trends, but also a co-author — to develop its own standards, adapted practices, and educational models.
  • Psychological triggers: “recognition”, “science”, “professionalism”, “opportunities”. The institute should take advantage of these.
