Pharmacology News in February 2025

In February 2025, the pharmaceutical industry underwent significant changes, in particular due to the introduction of innovative technologies and new legislative initiatives. One of the key trends was the active use of artificial intelligence (AI) in pharmacy. This includes automating processes, improving patient care and expanding access to healthcare services. The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of the United Kingdom presented a policy on the use of AI, highlighting its role in supporting patient care and improving access to healthcare services.

The Healthy Technology Act, a bill introduced in the US, allows AI systems to prescribe medications under certain conditions. This move aims to reduce prescription errors and improve healthcare efficiency. In addition, Amazon Pharmacy uses generative AI to reduce prescription processing time by 90%, significantly improving customer experience and efficiency.

The UK has launched an expansion of clinical trials in pharmacogenomics, which could improve personalised treatment. Meanwhile, a survey found that more than half of pharmacy workers are experiencing mental health problems due to medication shortages, highlighting the need to support workers in the sector.

Important events in the pharmaceutical sector also took place in Ukraine. On February 7, 2025, leading domestic manufacturers of medicines signed a declaration on cooperation to reduce and stabilize drug prices. As part of the signed declaration, manufacturers agreed to reduce the retail prices of the 100 most commonly used medicines by 30% from March 1, 2025 compared to the list prices as of January 2025.

In addition, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine is working on introducing the referencing of wholesale prices for all medicines and creating a National Price Catalog. These measures are aimed at increasing the transparency of pricing policy and ensuring the availability of medicines for the population.

In 2025, we expect further developments in technologies that will transform the healthcare industry. In particular, the introduction of artificial intelligence agents is predicted – intelligent programs that receive goals from people and find optimal ways to achieve them. They can write code, manage production or evaluate mortgage applications. These advances, fueled by growing trends in the digital healthcare market, aim to solve key challenges, improve treatment outcomes and rethink the role of technology in medicine.

These events highlight both the progress and challenges faced by the pharmaceutical industry in the face of rapid technological development.
